In losing weight, it is important to promote healthy eating habits that would help the body get rid of excess fats and attain desired weight.</p>
<p>Small Frequent Meals</p>
<p>To fuel up metabolism, it is recommended to eat small frequent meals. It is ideal that large meals such as breakfast, lunch, and supper should be divided into smaller meals.  In other words, in-between snacks are to be avoided when large meal comes. By having small frequent meals, metabolic rate is in constant because it senses the continuous flow of food. Accordingly, amount of fats burned continues as well.  Moreover, it will prevent the feeling of hunger which may lead to overeating.</p>

<p>The one downside of running for weight loss is that some people take it to the extreme, they run too much and too often and instead of losing weight they also reduce their overall muscle mass which can give them a gaunt, unhealthy appearance. </p>
<p>In order to keep your muscle tone while you burn fat some simple changes to your technique can help. </p>
<p>Stay away from long runs. Any run that is over 45 minutes long can be detrimental to maintaining muscle mass.  The biggest reason is because on those long runs your body needs all the energy it can get and one of the easiest to access is burning muscle. </p>
<p>Think of marathon runners, many of whom supplement their workouts with some form of weight training, no matter what else they do for a workout they all tend to look mal-nourished and underfed. That is because their muscle mass is being diminished faster than it is being replenished. </p>
<p>One great way to combat this is to incorporate interval training into your running regime.  This is simply a way of working out where your workout intensity goes up and down like a roller coaster. </p>
<p>You do very heavy cardio bursts for a short time, taking your body to it&#8217;s maximum limits, then you alternate that with a lower intensity session. </p>
<p>How many times you alternate between the high and low sessions as well as how long each session will be, needs to be determined by your current fitness level and overall fitness goals. </p>
<p>When you first start out with interval training it is a very good idea to enlist the help of a trainer who can help you develop a good program specifically for you based on your current fitness level and your overall fitness goals. </p>
<p>For most people the best combination will be to do running on one day and weight training on the next. Keep alternating that way to maximize your results. </p>
<p>If you can avoid it, do not combine both exercises in the same day. If you absolutely can not avoid it, at least do one exercise (say weight training) in the morning and allow yourself at least 8 hours before you do the running portion of your workout routine. </p>
<p>Doing it that way will allow your body the maximum amount of time to rejuvenate and replenish itself. You will get the benefits without having too much stress on your body. </p>
<p>Also it&#8217;s crucial that you provide your body with all the nutrients it needs to support your high energy workouts. Make sure you provide your body with a lot of lean high protein foods. This is essential to help maintain and build muscle mass. </p>
<p>And, of course, make sure to keep hydrated. If you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated. Keep drinking throughout the day and your workouts to avoid feeling thirst in the first place. </p>

Further, when you lose a few pounds using them (instead of a healthy, moderately paced weight loss plan) you almost always tend to put the weight back on. There&#8217;s nothing &quot;long term&quot; about a fast weight loss diet. These type diets aren&#8217;t meant to be used for long-haul fat loss maintenance. They are simply &quot;quick fixes&quot; intended for those who only need to lose a few pounds.</p>
<p>This is why you will often hear these types of diets referred to as &quot;fad diets.&quot; A few examples of fad diets are: the Cabbage Soup diet, the 3-Day diet, the 7-Day diet, the Grapefruit diet, the Atkins diet, and there are many, many more. None of these, however, are meant to be used long-term for losing weight. In fact, continuing either of them could produce serious health problems later on, like: dehydration and loss of muscle. There are more possible risks, but this article isn&#8217;t about scaring anyone. Instead, we&#8217;ll talk about when using a &quot;fast diet&quot; can be O.K..</p>
<p>Before we get to it, however, let me say that using fast diets to lose weight fast should be undertaken for short-term quick weight loss only under the guidance of a qualified physician  of which I am not. Always consult with your doctor first. Now, with that said, the only time a fast diet might be okay is when you&#8217;ve got less than ten pounds to lose (preferably no more than 5 to 7 pounds)  and you&#8217;ll be going back to a nutritionally sound, healthy diet and exercise plan immediately after losing the weight.</p>
<p>Here are some tips for staying healthy while dieting:</p>
<p>1. Drink lots of water. There are no calories in water, and your body needs plenty of fluids to properly burn off fat anyway, so you&#8217;ll agree this kinda makes sense.</p>
<p>2. Drink an 8 ounce glass of water before you eat. You&#8217;ll feel full faster, and won&#8217;t want to eat as much food.</p>
<p>3. Use a small plate and eat slowly. You&#8217;ll feel full faster and won&#8217;t eat as much.</p>
<p>4. Be active. Inactivity doesn&#8217;t help burn fat or calories, so get up off the couch and go outside for a walk, or jog. It doesn&#8217;t take a lot of stressful exercise to burn extra calories, but activity is required.</p>
<p>A final bit of advice before you go: remember that fast diets are not meant to be used for a long time. It&#8217;s better to eat right and exercise than put yourself in a position of wanting or needing to lose weight fast. If you need to lose three pounds before prom, or your brother&#8217;s niece&#8217;s wedding, maybe. But for long term weight loss (if you plan to keep off the weight you lose) fast weight loss diets are too stressful on the body to keep up  and may seriously jeopardize your health.</p>

It&#8217;s fairly easy to lose 5 or so pound of water weight.  That can be enough to help you avoid the bloated look when you have that hot date.  But if you&#8217;re talking about losing 20 or more pounds of fat, there really isn&#8217;t a &#8216;fast way&#8217;, though there are some methods that tend to be more effective than others. </p>
<p>First of all, go talk to your doctor.  Get your thyroid level checked to make sure everything is running properly.  If you&#8217;re body isn&#8217;t running the way it should be it will be much harder to lose all the weight you want to lose. One note here, it&#8217;s very uncommon for someone to have such a severe issue with their body that that is the reason for their weight gain.  While it can contribute to weight gain, it&#8217;s unlikely that some medical issue is the sole reason, so don&#8217;t expect your doctor to just write you a prescription and tell you that it will take care of your weight issue. </p>
<p>Once that &#8216;s out of the way, it&#8217;s time to get serous.  There are two main things you need to do if you want to lose weight, and if you do them properly you can optimize your weight loss efforts and help move things along a little more quickly. </p>
<p>One is to eat properly. Now is not the time to exist on salads and water, that will only help you pack on the pounds.  Unless you&#8217;ve been living in a cave for the last several years, you&#8217;ve no doubt heard that recent research has found that your body will automatically protect itself at all costs.  That means if you don&#8217;t provide your body with all the nutrients that it needs, it will think that it is starving and it will slow down your metabolism.  By not eating enough you are actually encouraging your body to hold on to  all the fat that it can.  Eating is a vital part of weight loss. </p>
<p>Of course, that doesn&#8217;t mean you can eat as much or whatever you want.  You want to have an eating plan that is balanced with just the right amount of proteins, carbs and fats.   Make sure you keep it all in proportion for optimum results. </p>
<p>You also need to work out.  Again, there are methods you can use that will help you get great results with less time.  It&#8217;s all about working smarter not harder.  Find a workout plan that isn&#8217;t stuck in the rut of thinking you have to spend endless hours on the treadmill to lose weight.  By learning the proper technique you can cut your workout routines in half, or more, and still get amazing results. </p>
