Essential Elements of Weight Loss

Losing weight doesn’t have to be a difficult process.  Just follow a few general guidelines and you will be headed to a slimmer, healthier you.

  • Exercise: Thousands of years ago, if you wanted to eat, you had to go out and hunt or gather your food.  Exercise was inherent in eating.  Now, drive-thru’s make it possible to stay in your car and eat a 2,000 calorie meal.  Be sure to get at least 20 minutes of exercise each and every day in order to keep your metabolism up, burn a few calories and maintain muscle mass.
  • Hydration: Staying properly hydrated is a large part in staying healthy and fit.  As a rule of thumb, you should be drinking at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day.  Stay away from sodas and alcoholic beverages since they contain empty calories and will actually dehydrate you.
  • Motivation: Don’t lose motivation by comparing yourself to all the slender people at the gym.  Focus on your own goals and use others as inspiration to keep you motivated.
  • Supplementation: When hitting plateaus, using weight loss supplements in conjunction with proper diet and exercise, can help give you that edge needed to lose those stubborn pounds of fat.  Start out with a more mild supplement, since some can be overwhelming.  Be sure to read weight loss supplement reviews before buying anything.
  • Diet: The most important part of a weight loss diet is to pick something that is tolerable.  Pick something that you absolutely can’t tolerate and you will default back to your old poor eating habits in no time.
  • Consistency: Going through spurts of rapid weight loss is not sustainable.  Don’t over-extend yourself by going on a crash diet that is only designed to make you lost 10 pounds in two weeks.  If you successfully complete the two weeks, what happens next?  You go back to your unhealthy habbits?  The goal should be making lifestyle choices that promote a healthy weight.
